News intern wins photography honor
There were 68 entries in the photo category of this inaugural competition.
Hussin receives $2,000 for the award. Also included is a matching grant to be sent to the University of Florida, where he eventually will return to finish his degree.
This summer, Hussin will switch to the Rocky Mountain News in Denver for another photography internship.
"I think this is a great honor for Tim," said Ravell Call, Deseret News photo editor. "He's done an excellent job for us."
Hussin entered work produced during his internship at the Deseret News. The three pieces he entered were video and photos of the Festival of Holi; video from the YFZ Ranch in Texas of a woman crying while telling the story of being separated from her children; and a "Kids with Guns" slide show.

The competition was sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
Hussin is also one of 12 college photojournalism students who are semifinalists in the National Championship Photojournalism competition this June. For more information, go to www.hearstawards.org.
