Nonobservers not afraid
If I don't "embrace" Cinco de Mayo, it's not because of the Deseret News' ludicrous assumption that I'm "fearful" of new ideas. It's simply because this holiday holds absolutely no personal or cultural relevance for me (and I'm half Hispanic!), despite the media's dogged, well-meaning efforts to indoctrinate me otherwise. To broadly paint most nonobservers as "afraid" of change is as condescending and simplistic as it gets. Please.
Next time, save your tacky racial pandering and amateur psychoanalysis for the funny pages.

The debate isn't about whether or not to celebrate a holiday....
