Offense was not at a loss Tuesday afternoon as the University of Utah baseball team hammered out season-highs with 26 hits and 22 runs in thumping in-state rival Southern Utah, 22-3.

"We played solid baseball today," Utah coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We saw good pitching, played good defense, and anytime you score 22 runs on 26 hits, you're swinging the bats well. Perhaps what stands out the most is our pitching, though. Our pitchers put up a lot of zeros on the scoreboard. That's hard to do when you go up big early in the game. I'm proud of our pitching today."

The Utes (17-24 overall) didn't waste any time in getting on the board. After SUU tallied two runs in the top of the first, Utah responded in the bottom of the inning. The Utes batted around in tallying 10 runs on 10 hits. The first inning included a leadoff home run and a two-RBI double by Corey Shimada, and an RBI triple from Jesse Shriner.

Utah finished the game with six extra base hits. The Utes also had an RBI triple from Cody Guymon and homers from Shriner and Austin Jones. Shimada was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. In addition to his homer and double in the first, he singled in the sixth.
