Jerry Johnston: Men, it's really OK to show a few tears
DURING MY SEMINARY years, teachers made students stand before the class and recite scriptures by heart. If you didn't have a scripture, you had two choices: fail the assignment or recite John 11:35.
That's the shortest verse in the Bible: "Jesus wept."
The class would then titter and the teacher would scowl. But no one thought much about the verse. It was just used as a dodge.
Today, I see it as a scripture that writers could build books around.
