A 'windfall' is heading your way

What should you do with your rebate? Six hundred or even twelve hundred bucks doesn't buy much these days. Here's a handy list of ways to spend your "windfall," assuming you get the $1,200 cash prize behind door No. 2:

• Fill up your SUV with gas about 20 times.

• Whisk the family away on a fun-filled trip to Paris — Idaho, that is. That other place is way out of your league, pal.

• Take your family of five to watch a Jazz game from the front row — sorry, just one game, and that's only if you can come up with some extra cash ... • Take a cruise to Midway or Manila — as in Utah. The ocean cruise is out of your league, too, after airfare.

• Take the family to Sizzler 24 times.

• Buy one letter in the naming rights for Dave's Big Soccer Stadium.

• Go on a shopping spree at Nordstrom, during a sale.

• Buy one custom-fitted set of irons.

• Pay for a half semester of tuition at the University of Utah or Brigham Young University.

• Pay for one minute of Kevin Garnett's salary in a regular-season game, but only if you combine your rebate with three other rebates.

• Buy a Bernese mountain dog or a purebred boxer or bulldog. But you can afford only one.

• Buy one pair of Louis Vuitton calf-leather high heels for $1,100, or the Louis Vuitton Galliera PM handbag for $1,200 (denim bags are too expensive).

• Buy a used 1991 Ford F-150 with a rebuilt engine and transmission, plus new tires and brakes (check our online classifieds if you're interested).

• Stay three nights in the New York Marriott Marquis — but bring something to do (price does not include meals, travel or Broadway tickets).

Better yet, save the rebate for next year's taxes.
