UtahBASEBALL: The Utes made themselves at home Friday at Ogden's Lindquist Field, as Stephen Fife struck out 12 UNLV batters in a complete-game victory as Utah took a 10-2 Mountain West Conference win.
Jesse Shriner hit a two-run homer for Utah (15-20, 4-8 MWC), and Cooper Blanc went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Top-seeded TCU won its 13th consecutive match and 20th of the season with a 4-0 shutout of the Utes in Friday's semifinals of the 2008 Mountain West Conference championship tournament.
Utah's lone winners were the doubles duo of Emily Kwok and Elizabeth Ferris.
SOFTBALL: The Utes were clobbered by 19th-ranked San Diego State, 13-3, on Thursday afternoon.
TRACK/FIELD: The Ute women's team participated in several meets on Friday.
At the Robinson Invitational hosted by BYU, Sarah Dowland had two top-10 finishes, placing seventh in the shot put (40 feet, 1 1/4 inches) and ninth in the javelin (118-2).
Chasity Toilolo led the Utes with a top-five finish in the shot put, with a throw of 41-10 3/4. Aimee Nay was third in the pole vault open, clearing 10-6, and Kellie Anderson recorded an eighth-place finish in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 18:35.57.
BYUMEN'S TENNIS: Top-seeded TCU posted a 4-0 shutout over the Cougars in Friday's semifinals of the 2008 Mountain West Conference championship tournament at Fort Worth, Texas.
BYU's Cassidy Mears and Evan Urbina won the first doubles match of the day, but TCU swept the remaining two doubles matches and three singles matches to seal the victory. The Cougars fell to 16-12 on the season with the loss.
Weber State
MEN'S TENNIS: The Wildcats were defeated by Montana 4-0 in Friday's quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference championship tournament.
The Wildcats got an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles from Henning Hipp and Nick Plum.
Utah State
MEN'S TENNIS: The Aggies fell to Fresno State, 4-0, in Friday's first round of the Western Athletic Conference championship tournament at Las Cruces, N.M. USU closes out the season with a 6-14 record overall.
Southern Utah
SOFTBALL: The Thunderbirds swept a doubleheader from Oakland University on Friday at Cedar City, winning by scores of 6-1 and 8-7 in eight innings and improving to 11-7 in Summit League play.
Kristina Brooks picked up the win with a complete-game effort in the opener, striking out nine batters and scattering five hits.
BASEBALL: The Thunderbirds dropped a doubleheader to Oral Roberts by scores of 7-0 and 15-8 on Friday at Cedar City. SUU slipped to 22-18 overall and 9-5 in Summit League play.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: At Fort Wayne, Ind. Top-seeded Oral Roberts spoiled third-seed Southern Utah's hopes for its first-ever NCAA berth in women's tennis Saturday with a 4-0 win in the championship round of The Summit League tournament.
