The University of Utah will have an open house on Thursday to demonstrate two new state-of-the-art electron microscopes that local industries may use for a fee.

The public and business representatives are invited to the open house, which begins with technical talks by university scientists and microscope manufacturers from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., in the auditorium of the Intermountain Network and Scientific Computation Center.

From 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., the microscopes will be demonstrated in the center's labs and the Merrill Engineering Building's nanofabrication laboratory.

Those wishing to attend or submit samples must register with Matt DeLong, the U.'s Department of Physics technical facilities director, at delong@physics.utah.edu or at 581-7462.

The U. will charge $75 an hour during weekdays, with lower rates for nights and weekends. Businesses without their own trained operator will pay an additional $60 per hour on weekdays and $80 per hour at other times for the U. to provide one.
