MEN'S TENNIS: Utah had a good week at BYU's indoor facility last week, edging BYU 4-3 on Saturday after beating UNLV 4-3 on Friday and TCU 4-3 on Thursday.

The Mountain West Conference named Utah's Zach Ganger and Miron Mann as co-Men's Players of the Week. It was Ganger's third time earning the award and Mann's first time.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Utes dropped a 4-3 decision against New Mexico on Friday at Albuquerque.

FOOTBALL: Utah safety Steve Tate has been named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame 2008 NFF Hampshire Honor Society. Tate, an economics major with a 3.34 GPA, was a first-team all-conference selection in 2007, leading the MWC defensive backs with 10.5 tackles for a loss and leading the Utes in tackles last season with 103. The Skyline product earned Academic All-Mountain West and Athletics Director Honor Roll accolades.

VOLLEYBALL: Cinthia Silva, who recently completed an All-American career at Salt Lake Community College, has signed an NCAA letter of intent to compete for Utah. Silva led SLCC to a third-place finish at the national tournament. She was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team, was a second-team All-American and led the Scenic West Athletic Conference with 3.87 kills per game. As a freshman she earned all-region honorable mention honors, leading the SWAC in hitting percentage (.379) and was second in kills per game (3.64). Silva will join newcomers Miranda Bradshaw, Sarah Hibbert and Abby Simmons, who signed during the early signing period.

SOFTBALL: Ashley Smuda threw her second no-hitter of the season as the Utes defeated UNLV 4-0 in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Smuda struck out five in the win. She raised her record to 13-9. Smuda also threw a five inning no-hitter on March 11 against Southern Utah.

The Utes (22-19, 5-3 MWC) scored all they would need in the third inning.

In Friday's first game, San Diego State scored a 3-2 victory over the Utes, thanks to Megan McDonald's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

TRACK & FIELD: Led by Laryssa Simpson's personal best in the pole vault, several Utes earned top-10 finishes on the second day of the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
