Lake Mead, which crosses the Nevada and Arizona borders, will get some extra water this year, thanks to Lake Powell and an above-average snow season in the Colorado River Basin, which includes Utah, the Bureau of Reclamation announced Friday.

The call for an increased release from Lake Powell comes from the 2007 Colorado River Interim Guidelines for Lower Basin Shortages and the Coordinated Operations of Lake Powell and Lake Mead. It's anticipated that the spring runoff into Lake Powell will be 122 percent of average, raising the lake level 50 feet by mid-July, the National Weather Service reported.

By this summer Lake Powell will be at its highest level in six years.
