LOGAN — A cool Logan breeze and mostly sunny skies set the stage for a spectacle Utah State football fans never saw in Romney Stadium last season.

The home team battled from behind to win 14-10 as the Aggies concluded spring drills Friday with their Blue and White Scrimmage.

"We finished strong when we needed it," said quarterback Sean Setzer.

With the score 10-7 late in the scrimmage, Setzer floated a screen pass wide left to a motioning Stanley Morrison, who turned the corner to score from 15 yards out. Morrison, a redshirt freshman from Texas, caught both touchdowns by the home team.

"I think he opened some eyes today," head coach Brent Guy said of Morrison.

Setzer, who is competing with three other QBs for the starting role, didn't start the game so hot. He threw an interception to cornerback Chris Randle on the fourth play of the night, but the visitors failed to capitalize and settled for three points on Chris Ulinski's 29-yard field goal.

"It's always disappointing to see that," Guy said of Setzer's interception.

The visitors increased the lead on their next drive. Running back Derrick Cumbee broke three tackles during a game-long 28-yard run. It was Cumbee's seventh run of the drive.

"The hardest thing is changing my defensive mentality to offensive mentality," said Cumbee, who is used to looking for players to hit instead of holes to run through.

The Aggies showcased their newfound depth at almost every position simply by holding the 98-play scrimmage. In years past, the Aggies lacked sufficient linemen, for example, to hold a game-type simulation.

"This is really the first time we've had the format, the ability to play what looks like a game," said Guy. "We have a lot of depth."

The Aggies are coming off a 2-10 season, including a winless record at home.

The 2008 season begins Aug. 30 at UNLV.
