MT. PLEASANT, Sanpete County — Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead.

The Sanpete County Sheriff's Office declined to release many details this morning, but said in a statement the shooting occurred Thursday around 11:30 p.m. at a home in the Mt. Pleasant area.

"A 39-year-old African American male died as a result of a gunshot wound," a sheriff's dispatcher said, reading from the prepared statement. "The case is currently under investigation by the Mt. Pleasant-area law enforcement."

Authorities would not say if the death has been ruled a homicide, or if anyone was considered a suspect in the shooting.
