PLAYERS ON THE RISE: Coach Kyle Whittingham singled out inside linebacker Mo Neal, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound redshirt freshman for his play Thursday as well as the defensive secondary as a group. He also said quarterback Corbin Louks continues to take steps forward each day.

INJURY REPORT: Receiver Bradon Godfrey still has a hamstring tweak and Isley Filiaga has been slowed by a foot injury. Starters Robert Johnson, Paul Kruger, Brent Casteel and Matt Asiata are all being held out of live drills because of minor injuries.

NOTES: Even though the weather was nicer than predicted Thursday, the Utes practiced indoors at the Eccles Center because the practice field was still slippery from rain of the previous day ... Whittingham said the Utes scaled back practice Thursday to just over an hour so they could have fresh legs for today's scrimmage, which was moved up a day to accommodate several players with a class conflict ... Whittingham said most of the main players would be kept out of live action today to avoid injuries.
