FARMINGTON — The Davis County Planning Commission has approved a measure to protect its water sources.

Under the proposed ordinance, companies whose work might contaminate groundwater would have to check with the commission before building plants near water sources. The commission would also be able to require companies to build facilities to contain their chemicals.

The ordinance was drafted after the Legislature passed HB40, which requires counties to adopt measures protecting their drinking water.

The Davis County Commission will now decide whether to give final approval to the measure.
