From Deseret News archives:
Stroll includes Art Chase
"With record turnouts last month, April looks to be a great month for the Gallery Stroll," coordinator Ryan Neely said.
Patrons may pick up a an Art Chase card at any venue, and then get a stamp for them at each gallery or other art venue they visit for a total of nine stamps. They are then eligible for prizes, including dinners at Guru's and Ottavio's and a night's stay at the Hines Mansion, Neely said. The mile-long stroll runs from 6-9 p.m. on Friday.
In addition to art, patrons may also expect live entertainment, including street performers, musicians, caracature artists and marshmallow roasting in several fire pits set up along the route.
Painter Michael Kelly is opening his show in Neely's Mode Boutique clothing store on University Avenue. That show runs until April 30.
The Terra Nova Gallery, 41 W. 300 North, opens its "His and Hers" exhibition, a collection of art from husband and wife artists. Among them are Andres and Jenny Bravo, Sharron and Paul Evans, Ben and Kerri Hammond and Clay and Rebecca Wagstaff.
Other new exhibitions, both in galleries and retail outlets, are:
• Coal Umbrella, 157 N. University Ave., paintings by Andrew Ballstead.
• Coleman Studios, 117 N. University Ave., "Into the Woods" paintings by Nicholas Coleman.
• Utah County Gallery, 151 S. University Ave., works by SueMarie Lamaker.
• Maestro's Gelato Cafe, 22 W. Center, art by Joshua Farnsworth.
• Covey Center for the Arts, 425 W. Center, an exhibition from the Utah Calligraphic Artists Association.
• Gallery One-Ten, 110 S. 300 West, "The State Street Project," a group exhibition.
Continuing shows are at the Storefront Galleries, empty storefronts turned into temporary galleries at 250 W. Center and 273 W. Center. Those exhibitions are "Reliquaries" by Jason Lanegan; "Curious Discoveries and Treasure Boxes," an installation by Kathryn Kennington; and paintings and sculptures by the Brigham Young University Visual Arts Club.
