Hall of Fame picks Utahn
Jolley, a Bountiful resident who died in 1995, served both in World War II and in the Korean War and was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross with three oak leaf clusters. He was the Air Force's 18th jet ace.
The Utah Aviation Hall of Fame is located at the Hill Aerospace Museum in Roy on the west side of Hill Air Force Base. Jolley will be inducted at ceremonies at the museum on Memorial Day, May 26. He will be the 22nd Utahn memorialized in the hall.
Jolley flew a P-38 Lightning during World War II, stationed in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He operated an airport after the war and was recalled to active duty in the Utah Air National Guard flying the F-86 Sabrejet in Korea.
Jolley retired from the Utah Air Guard in 1966 as a lieutenant colonel. In civilian life, he worked for Boise-Cascade as its director of design until 1973 and for the architecture department of the LDS Church until 1988.
The museum's Korean War exhibit includes an F-86, which has been restored to duplicate the "Jolley Roger" paint scheme of the jet Jolley flew in Korea.
