FARMINGTON — If you're 55 or older and looking for a job, you have a shot at more than 40 employers on Thursday.

From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., those employers will gather at the Davis County Events Center, 151 S. 1100 West in Farmington, specifically looking for employees over 55.

This is the fourth such job fair, sponsored by Davis County and the Utah Department of Workforce Services.

"We added some resources this year," says Ron Burris, the Senior Employment Program manager for Davis County.

Besides help with resume writing and interviewing and job search skills, specialists will be available to answer questions on Medicare, Social Security, Medicare fraud, weatherization, utilities assistance and vaccines.

At 11 a.m., attendees will be treated to a fashion show to demonstrate how to dress for success for less.

During Tuesday's regular meeting of the Davis County Board of Commissioners, all three commissioners sported business dress clothing they picked up at local thrift stores.

Commissioner Bret Millburn joked that he hadn't hired a personal tailor to take in the suit he bought, but that he was actually pretty happy with it.

"This is an opportunity for people attending the job fair to see they don't have to go out and spend $200 on a suit to get a job," said Bob Ballew, spokesman for the Davis County Health Department, which oversees the county's Senior Services.

Burris said in a news release that 80 percent of baby boomers believe they will continue to work into retirement.

"Studies show that older workers may actually have higher motivation and job satisfaction than their younger peers," Burris said, adding that older workers make a difference at their jobs through their experience, qualifications and work ethic.

People with questions should contact either Workforce Services at 801-776-7820, the Senior Employment Program at 801-451-3350 or LDS Employment Resource Services at 801-394-8801.
