Just weeks before the state's ski resorts are scheduled to close, two people died in skiing accidents in Utah's mountains over the weekend.

A 16-year-old Logan girl died after running into a tree Saturday at Beaver Mountain, said Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Chad Jensen.

"She and her friends were coming down the mountain at a pretty high rate of speed," he said. "She looked back to speak to a friend and hit a tree."

The teen was wearing a helmet, Jensen said. The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. and two physicians and two paramedics worked on the girl for 40 minutes before pronouncing her dead.

"It's just a terrible accident," Jensen said.

A 63-year-old Pennsylvania man died Sunday morning after crashing into a tree at The Canyons resort near Park City.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m., said Summit County sheriff's deputy Jim Shupe.

Deputies have not released the name of either victim, pending the notification of family members.
