All in a day Squeezing additional activities into ski vacations a growing trend
Which could be skiing in the morning, snowmobiling in the afternoon and then grabbing a few turns around the ice rink before dinner and sleep.
Then, the next morning, starting all over, but this time it may include a balloon ride, followed by skiing, tubing and a few laps in the swimming pool.
The days when taking a ski vacation involved only skiing have evolved into trips now where people squeeze as many activities into a day as possible.
Which is one reason Park City Mountain Resort worked into its Web site this winter a vacation planner, said Krista Parry, marketing director.
"The new planner allows people to plan their itineraries. What we're seeing is that more and more people are coming to the resort and looking to do more than just ski. Skiing may be the main reason for coming to Park City, but then there are so many other things to do they can become overwhelmed.
"With this planner they can schedule their activities each day. Not only does it allow them to plan their days, but it also shows them all the things there are to do in Park City."
Brent Hill, owner of the mountaintop getaway, said crossover business has gotten to a point where he's swapped his van for a 33-seat bus "that we take into Park City daily to pick up customers."
"I'd say between 70 and 75 percent of our rentals business is based on people coming to Park City to ski and then take a morning or afternoon and come here to snowmobile."
Currently, Hill is running a fleet of about 110 machines, and is doing daily trail grooming of a 26-mile loop leading to what many consider some of the best snowmobile country in Utah. The trail Hill and his staff groom also links up with a trail system groomed by the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation.
Daniels is currently running two groomers daily in order to keep trails smooth and comfortable to ride. Because of the consistent grooming, and the fact the trails are open to the public, the trailhead near the lodge has become extremely popular with those who own their own machines.
