Playing at local movie theaters
THE KING OF KINGS *** Cecil B. De Mille's occasionally overwrought 1927 epic telling of the life of Jesus is also surprisingly moving. Live musical accompaniment, black and white, running time: 115 minutes, made before ratings, probable PG (violence) (Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Organ Loft)
MEXICAN FILM AND CULTURAL FESTIVAL Local Hispanic businesses and groups are co-sponsoring this four-day event featuring dance and music performances, as well as screenings of such films as "El Violin" and "La Zona." A schedule is available at www.slcfilmcenter.org. (Through Sunday: Rose Wagner Center)
PETER GRIMES Filmed performance of the Benjamin Britten work, featuring the New York Metropolitan Opera. Running time: 225 minutes. (Saturday, 11:30 a.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m.: Century Sandy, Century South Salt Lake, Jordan Landing; $22, $20 for senior citizens, $15 for children)
WALLACE & GROMIT: THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT *** 1/2 Despite some questionable humor, this Oscar-winning, 2005 horror-spoof is a welcome return for the clay-animated, human-and-dog duo. Running time: 95 minutes, G (vulgarity, violence, mild profanity, brief partial nudity) (Saturday, 1 p.m.: Peery's Egyptian Theater, Ogden)
LARGE-FORMAT FILMS
DEEP SEA 3-D *** This entertaining documentary is an up-close look at various forms of aquatic life. Running time: 40 minutes, G (animal violence)
DINOSAURS 3-D: GIANTS OF PATAGONIA *** The makers of this IMAX science film get us about as close as we'd ever want to be to these enormous creatures. Running time: 48 minutes, not rated, probable PG (violence) Jeff Strickler, Star-Tribune (Minneapolis)
