Winner: President Bush greeted the oldest known surviving U.S. World War I veteran this week at the White House, thanking him for his service and his patriotism. Frank Woodruff Buckles, who now is 107 years old, has vivid memories of meeting Gen. John J. Pershing, as well as of other stories from the great "war to end all wars." He is a living reminder that the tumultuous history that shaped our world is not as far in the past as many think.

Loser: Davis County prosecutors this week said they have built criminal cases against 18 teenagers who have been trading nude pictures of each other over their cell phones. Lest you think this is just some stupid-but-harmless bit of juvenile idiocy, prosecutors added that some boys were using the photos to pressure girls to do things they didn't want to do.
Indeed, kids occasionally do stupid things they later regret. But serious crimes need to be treated seriously. These crimes hurt people. At the least, the kids are creating images that, because they are electronic, could remain in circulation for as long as electricity exists.

Winner: Men are doing twice as much housework today as compared to 40 years ago, according to part of a summary of studies released this week by the Council on Contemporary Families. But lest husbands begin feeling smug, evidence suggests they still aren't pulling their weight around the house.
