Stoic? LDS faith has passions that percolate

Mormons can't call themselves the "frozen chosen." That name is already taken by the Lutherans. But there always has been something sturdy and steadfast about LDS Church members — as if their founders came from the rugged, dry-eyed stock of New England farm families, then came West to live as flinty-eyed John Waynes.

Which is pretty much what happened.

Still, I have found a great deal of feeling bubbling below the surface of most stoic Saints. Anyone who's tried to take a charge on defense in a church basketball game or has kissed a Mormon girl after asking for her hand knows what I'm talking about.
