Utah Jazz notes: Kirilenko day-to-day with sprained hip
But the X-rays proved negative, and the Jazz are calling the sprained right hip starting small forward Andrei Kirilenko sustained in Monday's win over Dallas "a day-to-day type injury."
Just what that means remains to be seen.
Previously this season, starting center Mehmet Okur and reserve point guard Jason Hart missed seven and six games, respectively, with what the Jazz called "day-to-day" injuries a sprained shoulder and lower-back inflammation, respectively.
Kirilenko will be reevaluated today, Jazz spokesman Jonathan Rinehart said.
He was hurt in Monday's opening quarter, after getting pulled down to the floor by Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki on a layup attempt.
"It was definitely scary," Jazz point guard Deron Williams said, "especially because it looked like he wasn't going to be able to get up. We need Andrei out there. Hopefully he's fine."
"We heard X-rays were negative," Jazz forward Carlos Boozer added, "but we'll see how he recovers from it."
Kirilenko exited the game with assistance after he was hurt, but not before knocking down two free throws stemming from the flagrant foul.
Asked if he thought Nowitzki should have been ejected, Williams said, "I don't know if he did it on purpose, you know? But it was a pretty hard foul."
BOOZER'S BACK: Boozer was asked Monday about the state of his back.
"It's alright," he said. "I've got bumps and bruises, and definitely it's a little sore, but (I'm) playing through it."
HE SAID IT: Williams, on veteran point guard Jason Kidd being back with the Mavs after a recent trade from New Jersey: "He's a guy that can go to any team and fit in, no matter where he goes. He's one of the best players ever to play the game. He's a Hall-of-Famer, so it doesn't matter where it goes."
DICKENS RE-SIGNS: Cleveland on Monday re-signed 2000 Jazz second-round draft choice Kaniel Dickens and guard Billy Thomas to second 10-day contract.
Both were called up recently from Colorado of the NBA Development League.
Dickens, a forward from the University of Idaho, is with his third NBA team, but never did play a regular-season game with the Jazz. Portland and New Jersey are the others. He has also played in Russia, Ukraine, Spain, China, the CBA and the IBL.
