House Democrats held a press conference Wednesday to voice their support for appropriations aimed at providing support for veterans of the armed services.

Rep. Tim Cosgrove, D-Murray, said his party supports an increase of $10,000 over last year's allocation. The increase would bring the funding up to $100,000 in ongoing annual funds, with an additional $180,000 in one-time funding.

Cosgrove said the increase is particularly critical as more veterans return home and face the challenges of transition and the psychological trauma of battle.

The appropriation is applied toward a variety of support services for veterans and their families.

The funding proposal will be heard before an appropriation committee this week.
