Superfly Snowkiting: Powder Mountain to host the championship event
Snowkiting involves the use of a small, colorful sail pulling a competitor across the snow on skis or snowboard.
The event will run Friday through Sunday.
This is the first time a competition of this type has been hosted in northern Utah and goes along with Powder Mountain's commitment to becoming Utah's Snowkiting center.
It is the only ski area in Utah that offers a specific day pass for kiters and provides access to the Sunrise Poma lift that accesses ideal terrain and winds for snowkiting.
The Superfly Open is an opportunity for interested people to enjoy an introductory kite clinic and watch some of the best snow kiters in the world showcase their talent.
Powder Mountain's grooming team has been busy building some snow features for the kiters, to include slide rails and boxes.
There will be three categories of competition freestyle, kitecross and big air. There will also be timed challenges hosted by Ogden-based Suunto, as well as clinics that are open to the public.
The viewing area is wide and open for both competition and viewing.
