Timpanogos star QB Stewart to walk on, play for BYU
Stewart, a consensus first-team all-state player this past fall, will walk on with "preferred status," according to Molen. Stewart set several state passing records for the T-Wolves including touchdown passes per game (4). He finished his career with 466 passes in 897 attempts for 6,431 yards and 63 touchdowns. His senior year, he completed 238 of 418 passes for 3,518 yards and 44 touchdowns.
Stewart finished in the Top 5 of MaxPrep's national quarterback rankings for 12 consecutive weeks in touchdown passes, attempts, completions and passing yards in 2007. He was the Region IV Offensive Player of the Year (Coaches) and the All-Utah Valley Most Valuable Player in 2007.
At 6-foot-2, 185, Stewart was a three-year starter and holds all the school's passing marks. "His strength is reading defenses and finding the open receiver," according to Molen.
"He had recruiting interest form Stanford, Hawaii, UNLV, Colorado State, Utah, Utah State, Southern Miss, Arkansas State and Idaho State, but many school were not interested in signing him because he plans on going on an LDS mission immediately," said Molen.
"He received offers from Weber State, Southern Utah and Snow College."
