Sundance today: Notes and a photo gallery for Wednesday, Jan. 23
Cell phone booth: Where else but Sundance can you stand next to dozens of other people talking, but not saying a thing to any of them? To accommodate the voracious cell phone needs of festivalgoers, Sundance has set up a "cell phone atrium" outside the New Frontier on Main venue. Why? The cell phone reception is so bad at the venue, the atrium is pretty much the only place where there's a strong enough signal to make a phone call. There's even an official Sundance sign declaring the area a "cell phone atrium." Can you hear me now? Ben Winslow
Make me a star: If you hang around the Sundance Film Festival long enough, you'll see some strange things. On Tuesday, a woman dressed in a fur coat and fur hat was roaming around the headquarters for filmmakers and media types. She was handing out a card that said she was an actress. The card had a photo of her, reclining seductively while dressed in a blue corset. She gave one of her cards to a reporter, who promptly handed it to a film director. The director smiled and said (jokingly?) she would be in his next film. Stephen Speckman
What: Join the festival's Native Forum as festivalgoers screen their favorite YouTube pieces.
Where: Open Air Cinema, New Frontier on Main, 333 Main, Park City
When: Wednesday, 6-8 p.m.
Hayley Marie Norman: Her name may not be too familiar, but she was certainly turning a lot of heads on Main Street in Park City Tuesday. Where have you seen her? She's model No. 25 on TV's "Deal or No Deal" and she's in Utah promoting the Slamdance movie "Trailer Park of Terror." The horror movie with zombies has a big buzz at the festival. Officials had to double the amount of screenings because of high ticket demand. And a promotional hat from the movie is one of the most sought-after freebies in town. Larry D. Curtis
