Salt Lake City is at the top of Forbes.com's rankings of "Best Cities for Jobs" in the United States in 2008.

Salt Lake was followed by Wichita, Kan.; Austin, Texas; Atlanta; and Fort Worth, Texas.

The rankings were derived using five data points for the full year 2006, weighted equally: the state's unemployment rate, job growth, income growth, median household income and cost of living. It measured the greater metropolitan areas of the largest 100 metro areas as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau and obtained data from Moody's Economy.com.

Honolulu is the top of the group for low unemployment. Edison, N.J., was highest in the median income category. Buffalo, N.Y., has the lowest cost of living. San Jose, Calif., has the highest cost of living. McAllen, Texas, is expected to have the highest job growth rate.

New York City was 58th on the list, while Los Angeles was 87th.
