Women's tennis team tops Hawaii, loses to Baylor
The Cougars cruised to an early 4-0 lead before the Rainbow Wahine managed to score a point last Friday.
"This was a fun match, and overall it's a good start to the season," head coach Craig Manning said. "We got off to a pretty quick start after adjusting to playing in the low altitude. Some players struggled early but played well at the end."
On Saturday, BYU was overmatched, as they failed to score a point against the Bears.
"We fought hard and competed really well," Manning said. "I thought the match was closer than what the score showed. Baylor is a really good team and were too good for us today."
The Cougars return home when they take on Utah State on Friday, Jan. 18, and Arkansas on Sat., Jan. 19.
MEN'S TENNIS: The Cougars will host a doubleheader on Friday, Jan. 11, against Utah State and Weber State. BYU, who last competed in early November, face off against the Aggies at noon, then match up versus the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m.
BYU (11-3-1), winners of three in a row and eight of its last nine, will host Utah State Friday at 8 p.m. They will then take on Weber State's Division I team the next night at 8:30 p.m.
RUGBY: The Cougars (4-0) recently announced the hiring of BYU alumnus and ex-USA Eagle player Jeff Hullinger in the role of assistant coach.
Hullinger will serve as a backs coach and will also work with video analysis of team and individual game and practice footage.
BYU will play its Blue & White Scrimmage on Sat., Jan. 19, at 9 a.m.
SWIMMING AND DIVING: Both the men's and women's teams will resume action today, with matchups at home against Texas Christian University.
TRACK AND FIELD: The Cougar men's and women's teams host the BYU Indoor Invitational this weekend. Competition will be on both Friday and Saturday.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The No. 2-ranked Cougars will face UC-San Diego in San Diego on Friday. Action is set to start at 7 p.m.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Cougars (6-6) open their Mountain West Conference play at Colorado State on Saturday, then return home to consecutive home games against UNLV and Utah on Jan. 16 and 19, respectively.
