EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A resident here felt so strongly about the city's efforts assisting the Utah National Guard he persuaded the Guard to give the city formal thanks as well as a plaque and certificate of gratitude.

Eagle Mountain gives all deployed soldiers residing permanently in its bounds a $100 monthly utilities discount, according to a statement from Utah National Guard spokesman Maj. Hank McIntire.

"They've always gone above and beyond, helping out our citizen-soldiers," said Utah Guard Staff Sgt. Robert Hill, who had the idea to formally recognize the city. "With their constant support of National Guard events, the city has always bent over backwards for us. It's those quiet supporters who need to be recognized most."

Hill was deployed to Afghanistan in 2002 with the 117th Engineer Detachment, according to McIntire. He was employed with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office at the time, and took a sizable pay cut while deployed.

The Eagle Mountain City Council will accept the formal thanks at their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall, located at 1650 E. Stagecoach Run.
