Attorney General Mark Shurtleff: It won't be hard to keep the attorney general away from Harleys this year, but he's also hoping for a little broken-bone sympathy from Utah conservatives this year so no one will file an intraparty challenge.
Salt Lake City Mayor-elect Ralph Becker: The new mayor's wish is that everyone will remember the last eight years, thus ensuring the longest political honeymoon ever for any elected official.
Congressman Rob Bishop: He with the great hair and obtuse humor is hoping that rumors of his candidacy for governor in 2008 continue throughout the legislative session (it's just too much fun watching everyone squirm).
Congressman Jim Matheson: In the spirit of full disclosure, the blue dog Democrat hopes potential Republican contenders carefully study his contribution reports and prior election results. (And also that voters remember that while he is the only member of the majority party in Utah's congressional delegation, Nancy Pelosi doesn't really like him.)
David Leavitt: Figure out a way to get Jason Chaffetz to drop out of the 3rd Congressional District race.
Jason Chaffetz: Figure out a way to get David Leavitt to drop out of the 3rd Congressional District race.
Utah Senate President John Valentine: A united Senate Republican Caucus is high on the wish list to withstand the evils of the House and the wiles of the governor.
House Speaker Greg Curtis: The dealmaker is seeking the Really Big Deal that makes Sandy Utah's capital city and carves out the new 4th Congressional District for him.
Senate Majority Leader Curt Bramble: The former college wrestler is hoping this is the year everyone appreciates him for what he truly is a kind, gentle teddy bear who just wants everyone to be happy.
