Thursday's compromise closely resembles the one offered before. The only difference is Miller can cut the $175,000 from her budget anywhere she pleases. However, the council and mayor have "strongly encouraged" Miller to keep a domestic violence warrants coordinator, Councilman Jeff Allen said.
Miller said she will hire a domestic violence warrants coordinator and is currently analyzing what other positions should be funded with the budget increase.
"As district attorney, it is my responsibility to ensure that the DA's office has the resources necessary to prosecute the criminals that threaten the safety of our community," Miller said. "I appreciate the efforts of the council and mayor in working together to provide those resources."
The compromise also requires Miller to report back to the council and mayor in mid-January on what positions she intends to fill with the budget increase, and provide performance measures and outcomes for the personnel decisions.
At the conclusion, "The DA's budget was analyzed and debated more than any other budget in the county," GOP Councilman David Wilde said.
Democratic Councilman Joe Hatch said the "well-balanced compromise" shows that Corroon and his Republican counterparts "have the political courage to come to an appropriate compromise."
