High school athletes of the week
Wilcox is averaging 27.0 points per game, good for second in the state just a few weeks into the season.
Last Monday in a game played at EnergySolutions Arena, Wilcox scored 34 points in a 67-59 win over West Jordan. A few days later, he poured in another 31 in a 92-60 rout of Riverton.
He's one of four adept scorers on the team, which should make for an exciting year for the Vikings.
"Honestly, these kids couldn't care less how many points they score this year. They just want to keep teams as low as possible," said Pleasant Grove coach Randy McAllister.
DANI PETERSON, Skyline, basketball: This senior center is doing just about everything for the Eagles but driving the team bus to games.
The future Cougar is leading all scorers in 5A with an average of 25 points per game. Add to that her talent for getting to the hoop, grab rebounds, play defense and even pass to cutting guards, and you have one of the key reasons why the Eagles are 4-0 in their first four games this season.
Peterson scored 26 points in her debut against Timpview, and scored another 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Weber in the next game. She scored 35 points against West Jordan and 17 against Hunter.
"Only a handful of players of her height are as versatile," said Eagles coach Deb Bennett. "I'm glad she's on our team."
