LEHI — About 100 people attended a UDOT open house last week in Lehi to comment on a proposed east-west connector that would help relieve congestion on Main Street.

The proposed four-lane corridor will run from the American Fork interchange of I-15 at 300 East to Redwood Road at about 1000 South. The road will also feature a manicured median and bicycle lanes.

The Utah Department of Transportation has already allocated $135 million for the 5 1/2-mile corridor, said Geoff Dupaix, Region 3 spokesman for UDOT. The project should begin in spring 2009 and be finished in 2010.

Bryan Adams, the corridor project manager, said the majority of the people in Lehi understand the need to relieve the congestion on Main Street and have mostly supported the project.

Some residents who attended the meeting felt it wasn't as informative as they thought it should have been.

Lehi resident Bobby Madsen said she felt there wasn't any information that wasn't covered in the last meeting. She understands the need for the road but feels bad for the people who will lose their homes.

Some of Larry Hadfield's farmland will be affected by the corridor. The Lehi resident said the meeting didn't lay his concerns to rest.

"I think it's very broad information, they don't have the details worked out," he said.

He said he knew the meeting was in part to help work out those details but thought the dissemination of the information could be better.

"The information I've received has been very sporadic," he said.

Those interested in commenting on the corridor can e-mail ewconnector@utah.gov, go to www.udot.utah.gov/ewconnector or call 801-753-7344.
