The Mesquite City Council also approved a resolution opposing the power plant, citing a desire to protect the area's "pristine" desert environment.
"The city council finds that a reasonable approach to future energy needs must be based on clean, renewable sources that respect the fragile desert environment, and that takes advantage of the abundant natural resources found in Nevada," the resolution states. "And is opposed to efforts that rely on traditional fossil fuel driven options that produce dangerous emissions and disrupt the natural environment."
The town of Springdale on the outskirts of Zion National Park also voiced its concerns in a letter to various BLM and Nevada officials, said Mayor Pat Cluff.
