Utah Technology Council Hall of Fame inductees

James LeVoy Sorenson: Entrepreneur and inventor of medical devices, including the computerized heart monitor, the disposable paper surgical mask, the plastic venous catheter and blood recycling system for trauma and surgical procedures. Holder of more than 40 medical patents. Began career by selling pharmaceuticals to physicians in Salt Lake City for Upjohn and began buying real estate in the Salt Lake area. Left Upjohn in 1957 to cofound Deseret Pharmaceutical to resell drugs to physicians. Founded Sorenson Research in 1962, and the company was sold in 1980 to Abbott Laboratories. Owns Sorenson Cos., a parent company to 32 corporations in industries including medical, bioscience, investment/development and manufacturing. Among the philanthropic endeavors is the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation, which is creating a correlated genetic and genealogical database used in ancestry research.

Bernard Daines: Recognized as an expert in Ethernet technology and regarded as the "Father of Ethernet." Helped develop standards and solutions for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet, as well as establishing the markets for "Ethernet in the Local Area Network," the "Ethernet Metro Area Network" and "Ethernet in the First Mile." Cofounded Grand Junction Networks, a Fast Ethernet switch manufacturing company, in 1992. Founded Packet Engines in 1994. Founded World Wide Packets, an optical broadband company, in 1999. Served as chairman and chief executive officer of Linux Networx, a provider of cluster super-computing systems. Has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Brigham Young University and helped develop the computer science department at BYU.
