Outdoor notes
All golf courses and campgrounds at Wasatch Mountain State Park are now closed for the season. As snow accumulates, Wasatch Mountain golf courses will be open for cross country skiing with ski rentals available at the park.
Also, the Soldier Hollow tubing hill is scheduled to open Dec. 11.
For more information call 435-654-1791.
LOOKING FOR POACHER
Wildlife officers are looking for anyone with information about the killing of a doe and fawn near the LaSal Pass Road in late October.
Officers of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources believe the two deer were shot in late afternoon on Oct. 22 or early morning on Oct. 23.
Anyone with information can call the Utah Turn in a Poacher hotline at 800-662-3337. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered.
TURKEY PERMITS AVAILABLE
Utah's wild turkey permits are available for the spring hunt.
Those applying need to be aware of two changes:
• Hunters must have a hunting or combination license before they can apply for a permit. A hunting license is $26 or a combination license, which covers hunting and fishing, is $30. This year the wild turkey permit dropped from $40 to $35.
• Applications must be received over the Internet, www.wildlife.utah.gov, no later than 11 p.m. on Dec. 26.
Those without access to the Internet can apply over the phone, 801-538-4700, before 5 p.m. on Dec. 26.
Results will be posted Jan. 31.
SKI-THEMED PLATES
Utahns can purchase the new ski-themed license plate. Also available is the updated Delicate Arch plate.
The ski plate was designed by John Clark, an artist for the Deseret Morning News. The ski picture on the plate was taken by Deseret Morning News photographer Ravell Call and features former Olympic skier and Deer Valley ski director Heidi Voelker.
The old ski plate had been issued since 1985. The old Arch plate had been issued since 1992.
For information on the new plates call 801-538-1900 or visit dmv.utah.gov/licensestandardissue.html.
