Extra year kept Peterson from accepting Jazz offer

DOWN ON THE FARM: The Boston Celtics on Friday assigned guard Gabe Pruitt, a rookie from Southern Cal, to the Utah Flash, the D-League affiliate they share with the Jazz.

Pruitt appeared in two games for the Celtics this season, but was on the inactive list for six.

To make room for him on their 12-man roster heading into tonight's regular-season opener at Anaheim, the expansion Flash waived former University of Nevada guard Garry Hill-Thomas.

Meanwhile, according to their pre-game notes, the Flash plan to bring Jazz-assigned center Kyrylo Fesenko off the bench and start ex-Washington Wizard James Lang in the middle for tonight's opener.

MISC.: Williams did not take part in Friday's morning shootaround, but started Friday night after receiving a pain-killing injection in his sore right big toe. Williams, who also did not practice Thursday night, underwent a surgical procedure to address an ingrown tail on the toe last Tuesday ... Hornets center Tyson Chandler missed Wednesday's game vs. Indiana due to a hyperextended right knee, but he was back in the starting lineup Friday ... Usual Jazz television play-by-play man Craig Bolerjack will call today's Tennessee at Kentucky college football game for CBS, so Steve Brown filled in on Friday night's Jazz broadcast.
