BOUNTIFUL — Residents concerned about property taxes in 2007 have organized two town meetings to educate others about property tax issues.

Those who attend will learn how the Utah Legislature is planning to tackle property taxes in 2008.

The group wants to develop plans for holding elected officials accountable if they fail to satisfactorily address property taxes.

The first meeting will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Bountiful Library, 725 S. Main St.

The second meeting will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at the American Legion, 55 W. 200 South.

"It is necessary to act immediately because the citizens of Utah have been hit especially hard by property taxes this year," said Tatiana Milne, one of the organizers. "And with the holidays coming, many Utahns will have to cut back on holiday purchases in order to be able to pay their property taxes."

All too often, Milne says, people fail to take action because they are too busy, because they don't know what to do or because they feel that one person can't make a difference.

"Get involved and help find citizen-friendly solutions to the property tax issue," Milne said. "Attend these meetings.
