Tongue-in-cheek measure would glorify Oreo cookie
Private school tuition-voucher supporter Rep. John Dougall, R-American Fork, brought a "resolution" to the Education Interim Committee on Wednesday to glorify the treat, which was used in pro-voucher TV commercials to claim vouchers would reduce class sizes and boost funding for public schools.
"In recent months, significant focus on public discussion has highlighted that Oreos can be a valuable tool in explaining economic and monetary issues," says the tongue-in-cheek resolution, which also suggests public schools could use the cookies to help teach math.
The audience and legislators, munching on Oreos that Dougall had doled out, chuckled at the joke resolution.
Voters defeated vouchers last week, 62 percent to 38 percent.
