Clues on missing Toquerville pair sought
Washington County sheriff's deputies said Chad Grijalva and Derek Davis, both 34, disappeared on Oct. 24. Family members said they told friends they were traveling to Cedar City to run some errands and planned to return to Toquerville that evening.
The men never returned.
"I'm so afraid," Chad's mother, Pennie Grijalva, said Thursday. "My biggest fear is they've been in an accident somewhere."
Authorities are perplexed and said that because the men just disappeared they are calling it suspicious.
"They've dropped completely off the face of the earth," Washington County Sheriff's Lt. Jake Adams said Thursday. "There's been no financial transactions. They've just disappeared."
Sheriff's deputies said they have evidence that suggests Grijalva's cell phone was used in the Delta area on Oct. 24 at about 7:30 p.m. It was again used on Oct. 26 in the Salt Lake City area at 11:09 p.m.
Pennie Grijalva said she has been calling her son's phone constantly, but has gotten no response.
Family members said deputies aren't launching full-scale searches for the men because they don't know where to start looking. On Thursday, Pennie Grijalva said her husband rented an airplane to do a search over southern Utah for any sign of Davis' truck.
Sheriff's deputies have listed the two men and Davis' truck as missing on a national crime database. Police in Millard County and along the Wasatch Front have also been contacted.
On Thursday, Washington County Sheriff's deputies released driver's license photos of the two men in hopes of generating tips to find them. Adams said the men are not wanted for any crime, but deputies just want to check on their welfare and encourage them to call their families.
They were last seen in a white, 1990 Ford Ranger pickup with Utah license plate 429UKL. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 435-656-6500.
