The first of the "to-do" lists Buhler unveiled following the primary election called for a promise to work with the state Legislature to revise liquor laws to give cities local control over the number of restaurants with liquor licenses.

Buhler also said the city needs to "take a look at and make some modifications" to the city ordinance that restricts placement of liquor establishments. The current ordinance groups restaurants, private clubs, taverns — any business serving alcohol — together and treats them the same in terms of zoning restrictions.

"I think we need to have a new ordinance that will differentiate between these different types of establishments," he said.

Monday's debate, which aired on KSTU Fox 13, was the first of three televised debates for the mayoral candidates this week. Later Monday, Becker and Buhler were at the KTVX Channel 4 studios for a taping of "On the Record With Chris Vanocur," which will air at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. At 6:30 tonight, the candidates will debate on KUTV Channel 2.

At 10 a.m. Thursday, Buhler and Becker will join Doug Wright on KSL Radio in their final scheduled joint appearance before the Nov. 6 election.
