Senior outside hitter sets MWC record

Cougars drop to 13-6 overall, face A.F. and Wyoming

PROVO — Chelsea Goodman, Brigham Young senior outside hitter, had a historic night last Thursday when she set the Mountain West Conference record for career double-doubles at 48.

The mark was set with a 20-kill, 16-dig performance in a 27-30, 29-31, 28-30 sweep at the hands of No. 21 Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo.

The loss dropped BYU to 13-6 overall, 5-4 in MWC play. CSU improved to 13-5, 8-1.

For Goodman, it was the fourth time she has recorded at least 20 winners this season.

Next up for the Cougars are two home matches against Air Force and Wyoming this weekend. BYU swept both opponents earlier this season.

SWIMMING AND DIVING: The White team was victorious, coming out on top 194-190, in the 2007 annual Blue/White Meet last Friday at the Richards Building Pool.

The squads' coaches split up their rosters and named captains. The Cougar divers were also divided to simultaneously with the swimming races.

Also, Cougar women swept MWC swimmer and diver of the week honors. Freshman swimmer Aleehsa Miller and senior diver Angela Nelson received the first awards of the season.

The men will be at the Lincoln Shootout in Irvine, Calif., Nov. 2-3. The women will compete at the Houston Duals on Oct. 26-27.

MEN'S TENNIS: A total of five Cougars won all three consolation matches they were in at the Wilson ITA Division I Mountain Regional Championships last Saturday, in Las Vegas.

Thomas Shubert defeated Idaho's Stanislav Glukhov, 6-0, 6-3, while Shubert and doubles partner Thomas Young advanced in the draw after their opponents from New Mexico withdrew due to injury.

Cassidy Mears and Jonathan Sanchez won 8-4 over Montana State's Jusin Hauck and Pawel Turzanski advanced them into the next round of play.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: BYU's Elle Carney and Anastasia Surkova withdrew from the doubles main draw at the Wilson ITA Division I Central Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla., after Carney suffered an eye injury last Friday.

The tournament completes the Cougars' fall season and will play again at Hawaii on Jan. 4.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: BYU split a pair of road games last week, losing to San Diego State, 2-0, on Thursday, before beating Air Force, 3-0, on Saturday.
