The worst parking problem on Provo's streets is in the Joaquin neighborhood directly south of the BYU campus.

The City Council is considering a parking permit program for Joaquin that promises to be more controversial than the ones adopted by the Council Tuesday night, when more than 100 students turned out against the new ordinances.

Parking along streets in the neighborhood would be restricted to area residents with permits.

The council is expected to hold a public hearing on the Joaquin parking permit program on Nov. 20 but will seek input from area residents and BYU students at a series of meetings before then.

No date has been set for the meeting with students, but it is expected to be held at the Provo City Library at Academy Square, council executive director Terri Ann Harward said.

"At this point we're just looking for input, we really are," she said. Tad Walch
