OREM — An expert on the American South will discuss the history of lynchings during a Turning Points in History lecture at Utah Valley State College.

W. Fitzhugh Brundage, a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will speak Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Building, Room 101.

The event is free and open to the public.

Brundage, who earned a doctorate degree at Harvard University, is interested in white and black memory in the South since the Civil War. He has written several books on topics of memory.

Brundage said he is excited about speaking at UVSC because few Americans outside of academia know much about lynching.
