The Utah Department of Health and local health departments said Thursday they're easing some requirements for pool owners relating to hyperchlorinating pools and maintaining high levels of chlorine. However, the restriction from swimming continues for anyone who needs to wear diapers, regardless of age. And anyone who has had diarrhea should not swim for two weeks after the symptoms have ended.

The restrictions were put in place at the end of August to control a statewide outbreak of cryptosporidiosis, an infection caused by a parasite that causes long-lasting, often debilitating diarrhea. While cases are still being reported, health officials report that the rate of new cases has slowed substantially.

For more on the parasite and how to help keep pools safe from it, go to www.cdc.gov/healthyswimming/ or call the local health department.
