A man accused of robbing a Sandy pharmacy apparently got a guilty conscience after being caught.

The man and a female friend were accused by police of robbing the Harmon's pharmacy, near 7600 South and 700 East, on Aug. 18. After the robbery was broadcast on the news, tips led detectives to a Sandy resident who had left the state just after the robbery to stay with his mother-in-law in Texas. Investigators contacted him in Texas, and he agreed to return to Utah to face charges, said Sandy police Sgt. Victor Quezada.

When the man returned to Utah last week, and before he turned himself in, he went back to the store where the same pharmacist he robbed happened to be working that day, Quezada said. The pharmacist recognized the man immediately.

Instead of robbing her this time, however, the man handed her a letter of apology.

"He said he was sorry for robbing them," Quezada said.

The man later surrendered to police.
