Jason Chaffetz lives in Utah County, which people generally identify with Utah's 3rd Congressional District. But Chaffetz lives in Alpine, in the 2nd Congressional District.

It's not the first time 3rd District Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, who lives in the district boundaries in Mapleton, has faced a challenge from someone living outside the district.

Merrill Cook tried it in 2006 and Democrat Beau Babka in 2004.

"I meet all the constitutional and legal requirements," Chaffetz said.

His home actually has bounced in and out of the 3rd District.

In 2001 redistricting, the Utah Legislature moved the location of Chaffetz's home from the 3rd to the 2nd District. It already has voted to move it back when Utah gets a fourth seat in the U.S. House, expected after the 2010 Census.

"I've lived In Utah County for 20 years," Chaffetz said. "I'm hardly a carpetbagger."
