Aura of Autumn
Theater owner who helped create award is now the recipient
The idea came from then-board member Jody Renstrom. Now, her former colleagues will honor her with that award at the annual Aura of Autumn luncheon, fashion show and boutique Friday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Utah Valley State College ballroom.
The event is a fund-raiser to help the Women's Division fulfill many of its community obligations, including scholarship programs.
Miss Utah, Jill Stevens, will be the mistress of ceremonies.
Known to many along the Wasatch Front as a producer, director, actress, teacher and playwright, Renstrom says her favorite titles are wife, mother and grandmother. Renstrom said she didn't know quite what to say when she was notified of the honor.
"I'm really speechless," she said. "I didn't expect to have them do this. I'm really honored. It's really sweet of them."
Renstrom follows a long line of women honored for contributing in a variety of ways to the community. Among those women are ones she helped nominate, including the late Ruth Hale, Janie Thompson and Karen Ashton.
As a couple they've owned, managed and acted at the Valley Center Playhouse for more than 32 years. The playhouse in Lindon continues to fulfill their dreams of offering both actors and audiences the opportunity to enjoy theater without worrying there will be anything offensive.
Renstrom is also recognized for her two one-woman shows, "Portrait of Emma" and "Mary the Chosen," which she has taken on tour from Florida to California for the past 28 years.
Cost is $25 per person or $200 a table. the luncheon is at noon. Tickets, tables and boutique space are available by calling 369-8806.
