Participation totals were also released at the Board of Trustees meeting, and the number of students participating in sanctioned sports and activities continues to grow. In 2006-07, 112,015 student-athletes participated in UHSAA activities. Last year 81,870 teens participated in athletics, although that number might be inflated as some students could be counted twice as they participate in more than one sport. The most popular sport was football with 7,823 students participating, and for the girls it was track and field with 3,788 competing.

"Soccer is our fastest growing sport," Cuff said, although there have been issues retaining enough referees. "I just wish our official pool was growing as fast."

VERBAL COMMITMENTS: Skyline forward Dani Peterson verbally committed to play basketball at BYU next year. The senior averaged 16 points, nine rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game last season and helped lead the Eagles to a 22-2 record.

Beaver forward Morgan Wood has verbally committed to play for Southern Utah next season. The three-year starter averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. She helped the Beavers to a 17-7 record.

Box Elder senior Mandy Munns has committed to play for the University of Utah next year. At 6-foot-3, the forward averaged 14 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game as the Bees went 19-4 on the season in 2006-07.
