A man police say vandalized the campaign headquarters of Keith Christensen, and then stuck around long enough for police to get there, was arrested over the weekend.

The 42-year-old man kicked in the glass door and windows at the campaign office of the mayoral candidate and former Salt Lake City councilman, said Salt Lake City police detective Jared Wihongi.

When police arrived, the man was still there. He initially surrendered without incident. But when officers tried to put him into a police car, he tried to fight back and kicked one of the officers, Wihongi said.

The man was subdued and taken to jail for investigation of criminal mischief and assault on a police officer.

Wihongi said investigators were unsure if intoxication or mental instability were factors in the events. There was no indication whether Christensen's office was specifically targeted, or if it was just a random vandalism, he said.
